Once every 2 years the SDA offers a unique opportunity for members, or a child of a member, to apply for a scholarship to live and study overseas for 12 months.

The SDA works in partnership with AFS Intercultural Programs Australia.  AFS is a world leader in offering inter-cultural programs; it is a non-government, not-for-profit organisation which is community and volunteer based.

AFS has total responsibility for the selection of the SDA/AFS scholarship recipients; AFS will match the students carefully with a host family, arrange school placement and assist the students in selecting appropriate courses of study.

What does the Scholarship entail?

If your application is successful the SDA will pay the full AFS participation fee for the selected scholar. This covers professional program management, 24-hour global emergency support, all return travel between home and placement in the host country, visa charges, most medical insurance costs and careful selection by AFS of a host family, who will provide full board.

Am I eligible to apply?

Any SDA member or child of a member who is attending secondary school and in Year 9, 10, 11 or 12 at the time of application; and who meets the AFS application guidelines.

How do I apply?

If  you are eligible to apply, ou can commence the application process right now by using the AFS on-line application form.  Click here to commence this process.  Full details will be in the next SDA journal The Shop Assistant.  The next scholarship winner will travel in 2010.
