Christmas Day: Permanent Fix

The SDA has filed a submission supporting legislation to appoint Christmas Day as a public holiday whenever it falls on a Saturday or Sunday as well as the following Monday and Tuesday being public holidays. This will permanently fix the problem which occurred in Victoria with Christmas Day last year.

The submission has gone to Ernst and Young who are preparing a Regulatory Impact Statement for the Minister in relation to the legislation. This is a necessary step for all legislation.

The SDA welcomes the move by the Victorian Labor Government to legislate for Christmas Day to be a public holiday in these circumstances.
