The customer abuse and violence epidemic has our members feeling unsafe and unsupported in stores that do not have a security guard present, particularly late at night.
SDA members at several stores are saying enough is enough, and have started petitions calling on their employers to fund security guards in their stores.
Staff have already been successful in some stores. SDA Delegate Kayla Roberts and other staff from Coles Fitzroy had roughly half the store sign the petition, and Coles agreed to reinstate the evening security guards that had been taken away.
This shows the strength SDA members have when they stand together in their Union to demand a safe workplace.
Well done to Kayla and all our members who are making workplaces safer all across Victoria.
If you think your store needs a security guard or there are other safety issues in your store, please contact the SDA.
