Our Team

At the SDA we have a large team of people committed to protecting and advancing the rights of SDA members. This team is complemented by our large team of Delegates and Health & Safety Representatives in the workplace.

Michael Donovan

State Secretary/Treasurer

Michael's history with the SDA commenced in 1977 when he started working as a Research/Industrial Officer with the Victorian Branch. In 1992 he was elected as Assistant Secretary and then went on to become State Secretary-Treasurer in 1996. Michael has been successfully re-elected for further terms ever since, most recently in 2022 when he was elected unopposed.

Mauro Moretta

Assistant Secretary

Mauro came to the SDA in 2005 to work as an Industrial Officer. He has represented SDA members at the Fair Work Commission and negotiated Enterprise Bargaining Agreements to protect and improve the pay and conditions of SDA members. Mauro became Assistant Secretary in April 2020.

Julie Davis

President

Julie first began working for the SDA as a Union Rep in 2004. Since then, she has been a full-time Organiser, a Senior Organiser, the Victorian Branch’s Women’s Equity Officer, a Branch Conference Delegate and a State Councillor. Julie became the President in September 2021.

Debra Becker

Vice-President

Deb is a Delegate of the SDA at Kmart Horsham. She has been a delegate since 1992. She was elected as Vice President in 2014.

Sue Nance

Vice-President

Sue is a Delegate of the SDA at Coles Rosebud. She has been a delegate since before 2001. She was elected as Vice President in 2010.

The SDA supports our members by providing access to a range of specialist staff who are able to assist members with any work place issues.

SDA employs full time Research Officers, Information Officers, Health & Safety/WorkCover Officers and Training Officers to support members.

Dean D'Angelo

Specialist Industrial/Campaigns Officer

Dean is an experienced and qualified Industrial Officer who assists members in industrial disputes with employers and represents members in the relevant court or tribunal. He also represents members in enterprise bargaining to secure improved wages and workplace conditions.

He is also responsible for the coordination and implementation of industrial campaigns run by the branch and nation-wide campaigns.

Zach Steenhuis

Industrial Officer

Zach is one of the SDA's experienced and qualified Industrial Officers who can assist members with issues and disputes, including WorkCover claims.

Anthony Lay

Industrial Officer

Anthony is one of the SDA's experienced and qualified Industrial Officers that can assist members in their disputes with employers and, if required, will represent members' interests in the appropriate court or tribunal. Anthony is also involved in enterprise bargaining, where he appears on behalf of members to secure improved employment conditions and rates of pay.

Anna-Lena Jenner

Industrial Officer

Anna-Lena is one of the SDA’s passionate Industrial Officers that assists and represents members with matters such as employer disputes, WorkCover claims and any issues stemming from workplace discrimination. Anna is experienced and qualified to represent SDA members’ interests, when required, in the appropriate court or tribunal.

Karadji Cummings

Information Officer

As an SDA Information Officer, Karadji is part of a team that can receive up to 100 calls a day from members seeking advice on issues such as wages, working conditions, rosters, hours of work, and allowances. Justin Sultana-Smith

Information Officer

As an SDA Information Officer, Justin is part of a team that can receive up to 100 calls a day from members seeking advice on issues such as wages, working conditions, rosters, hours of work, and allowances. Jason Thompson

Health and Safety Officer

Jason is one of the SDA's full-time Health and Safety Officers. He assists our Organisers and Health & Safety Representatives in representing members' interests in the workplace.

Michael Whitehead

SDA Training Officer

Michael is one of the SDA's Training Officers. He teaches our initial and existing Delegates in a range of new skills and assists them with understanding and fulfilling their responsibilities as Delegates, in their store.
